Breastfeeding Bonnets

Breastfeeding bonnets are designed specifically to fit little heads and offer some additional privacy for mom while baby is feeding. It can even also help prevent baby from being distracted by surrounding lights or movements.

Our MoBoleez Breastfeeding Bonnets aren’t only functional however, each one is made from super-soft, all-natural fabrics (70% Bamboo / 30% Cotton) and feature baby-friendly colours, and beautiful, humourous illustrations for the top of the head that are visible while breastfeeding.

What Is a Nursing Top? https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/nursing-clothing/what-is-a-nursing-top https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/nursing-clothing/what-is-a-nursing-top#comments Tue, 26 Apr 2011 11:58:42 +0000 dcrosbie https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/?p=521 Continue reading ]]>

I love my fabulous nursing tops! They really do help to make breastfeeding more convenient in private as well as in public. With enthusiasm, I often tell people about my nursing tops, but unfortunately, the most common response is “Nursing Top? What is a nursing top exactly?” If you’re breastfeeding and you don’t have a nursing top, you don’t know what you’re missing!

First, what exactly is a nursing top? Good question! A nursing top is just a regular top with “secret” concealed openings in the shirt so that you can pop out a breast and feed you’re baby without having to expose your entire belly or breast. If you buy a good nursing top, it should be comfortable, fashionable, and best of all, no one should even be able to tell that it’s a nursing top.

There are many different ways that a nursing top can hide its openings so that they are concealed until you need to use them. Check out our Nursing Top Styles Guide for an overview of the different types of nursing tops and nursing openings you can find at BumbleWee Nursing Wear.

Next, why do you want a nursing top? There are many reasons why a woman would want a nursing top. Here are eight benefits of nursing tops:

  1. Nursing tops are convenient – You don’t have to lift up your entire shirt to expose your breast for nursing.
  2. You don’t have to sacrifice fashion in order to get a top that is easy to nurse in.
  3. You don’t have to expose your entire belly to get to your breast. (I don’t know about you, but exposing my belly was the last thing I wanted to do after my son was born).
  4. You don’t have to expose your entire breast to breastfeed. Many nursing tops have an under-layer to only expose the part of the breast necessary for breastfeeding.
  5. You don’t have to hide – With a nursing top you’re exposing less skin which will help those moms who feel a bit nervous about breastfeeding in public.
  6. Nursing tops help to make those around you feel more comfortable and accepting of you nursing your child. Although it’s not right, many people still feel uncomfortable with nursing in public. By minimizing skin exposure we can help bridge the gap with these people and hopefully teach them to be more accepting of breastfeeding.
  7. More enjoyable nursing experience – with a specialized nursing top, it easier to breastfeed your baby. Also, fashionable nursing tops will make you feel more like your old self and not like a tired lactating mom. Having an enjoyable breastfeeding experience is crucial to successful breastfeeding for both the mom and baby.
  8. Many nursing tops are also sized to be used during pregnancy as well as post-baby. Be sure to look into this option since it will really cut down on the number of clothes you have to buy! Most items at BumbleWee Nursing Wear are good for pregnancy and throughout nursing.

Also, keep in mind that in addition to a nursing top, there are many other types of clothes that really help the nursing experience. There are items such as nursing bras (which are essential if you’re using a nursing top), nursing pajamas, and even fashionable nursing dresses! You can also get nursing covers if you still want some extra privacy beyond what the nursing top provides. For an idea of the types of clothing you might want to start off with take a look at BumbleWee Nursing Wear’s article on Nursing Clothing Essentials.

Technically, you don’t need anything except for you and your baby. However, there are many items you can use that will make your breastfeeding experience more comfortable, discreet, and enjoyable for you! Here’s a quick tour of the basics that I believe every nursing mother should have.

Nursing PJs

Nursing PJs are a must have. In the beginning, while your body is healing, over-tired and stressed, you’ll likely be spending more time than usual in your PJs or loungewear. You’ll want to have PJs that have convenient breastfeeding access since you’ll be needing to feed your baby often.

How Many? I would recommend at least two nursing PJs, one for the wash and one to wear.

Nursing Tops

Nursing Tops are essential for discreet nursing in public. Nursing Tops are the best way to discreetly feed your baby in public. Nursing tops come in an assortment of styles and different openings for accessing the breast. Some tops pull up from underneath the breast, while others might have V-neck that pulls to the side of the breast. See our Nursing Top Styles Guide for more details.

How Many? Depends on how often you plan to nurse in public. I would recommend at least two to three casual tops and one to two more fashionable tops for going out.

Nursing Bras

This is a must have item! Nursing PJs and Nursing Tops are useless without it. A nursing bra provides easy access to the breast without having to remove your entire bra. Trust me, you’ll need this, especially in the beginning when your baby wants to eat every two hours!

How Many? You want to have at least two of these, one for the wash, and one to wear. Also, if you want an underwire nursing bra, that’s no problem, but you should be sure to have at least one or two bras without a wire for several reasons:

  • An underwire bra can put pressure on the breast increasing the danger of plugged milk ducts.
  • You’ll need a bra to sleep in because your breasts will be larger than normal and will need the extra support.
  • In the beginning, you will likely need to use breast pads while sleeping in order to catch leaks. A bra will be necessary to hold these breast pads in place.

Nursing Cover

A Nursing Cover is another essential item for discreet nursing in public. Paired with a nursing top, you can feel comfortable nursing your baby anywhere in public! A nursing cover cover’s you and your baby during nursing. It attaches around your neck so that baby can not pull the cover off during nursing.

How Many? One, unless your baby spits up often, then you might want two.

Choosing the right Nursing Top https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/nursing-clothing/choosing-the-right-nursing-top https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/nursing-clothing/choosing-the-right-nursing-top#comments Fri, 18 Sep 2009 22:50:58 +0000 dcrosbie https://bumbleweenursing.ca/blog/?p=223 Continue reading ]]> There are many fabulous nursing tops out there.  How do you decide which ones are right for you?  Here are a few pointers to help you pick the right nursing top for you.

Answering the following four questions and understanding which styles compliment your answers will prepare you for your shopping adventure:

  1. Do you want to show some clevage or wear a more modest top?
  2. Do you plan to wear the nursing top at home or out with friends?
  3. Do you want need super quick and easy access (like when your half asleep at night), or do you have time to prepare before feeding?
  4. Do you want maximum discresion or can you show a little boob?

Sexiness vs Modesty

If you want a sexy top that shows off your clevage then go with a v-neck top such as the Mothers En Vogue Side Ruched Nursing Top or the Mothers En Vogue Anna-Jane Nursing Dress

If you want a more modest top then go with a higher cut scoop neck or square neck top such as the Ruched Sleeve Nursing Top or the Taryn Jersey Nursing Dress.

Casual or Fashion

If you want your nursing tops to be used for a casual night at home then pick something that is comfortable and can be easily washed and dried. My choice would be one of our Nursing Henley‘s such as the Stripe Double Layer Nursing Henley or maybe even some Majamas Nursing Pajamas . Both of these styles can be washed easily and dried in the dryer.

If you want a Nursing Top to go out with your friends check out our Fashion Tops section for tops that are more fashionable. Keep in mind that many of these tops should lie flat to dry and not be put in the dryer.

Quick and Easy Access

If you are buying PJs that will be used during the night you should choose something that has the easiest breast access possible since you don’t want to have to fiddle with your top at night. My suggestion would be any top that has an opening type of Pull-Aside or Pull-Under. The Pull-Aside is a top where the v-neck pull to the side of the breast. The Pull-Under top is one where the neck stretches to be pulled underneath the breast. Check out The Pajanaman for an example of a PJ with pull-aside access.

Maximum Discresion

Do you want maximum discresion while your feeding, or are you able to show a little boob? If you want maximum discresion be sure to choose a top that has the opening style of Pull-Up or Pull-Aside with Underlayer. The Pull-Up tops lifts from he bust line over the breast. This type of opening allows the top of the breast to remain covered for maximum discresion. The Pull-Aside with Underlayer is a top where the Neck pulls to the side of the breast, but there is a second layer underneath the pull-aside to keep the top and side of the breast covered. Consider these tops for maximum discresion: The Tipped Bodice Top or the Double Layer Henley.
